Dermal fillers are used to correct wrinkle lines and folds caused by the natural loss of volume and loss of elasticity associated with aging. A gel is injected into the affected areas to lift and smooth out the skin, helping to achieve a younger look.
We adopt a very natural approach to treatment so avoiding some of the “overtreated” and “plumped” out examples you can see
We try and treat the underlying cause of the wrinkles and movement of skin downwards that occurs with age. We undertake natural enhancements of the cheek and lower half of the face.
The choice of dermal filler requires careful consideration and is decided by the doctor at your initial consultation, according to the appearance of your skin and the effect you wish to create. The amount of dermal filler used will depend on the degree of wrinkling and the area being treated.
Sometimes a combination treatment may be recommended to you, combining a dermal filler with wrinkle relaxing injections, to achieve the desired result.
The procedure is straightforward and takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Your doctor will first numb the area with a local anaesthetic cream or injection, and then inject the dermal filler in specific areas.
Some mild redness or swelling usually occurs in the treated area, but you can expect these effects to resolve within two or three days. Rarely, the redness may last longer and there can also be some bruising. By taking a more gradual approach to your treatment, you can achieve a more ‘natural’ look and help to minimise this risk.
You will be able to appreciate the cosmetic results immediately and expect the effects to last for about 9 months. Some of the deep fillers we use now such as Juvederm Voluma can last 18 months making this a cost effective procedure.
Note: If there is a history of multiple severe allergies or collagen vascular disorders such as systemic lupus or a susceptibility to keloid scars, then the doctor will advise against using dermal fillers.
